Three South West Trusts to Launch BadgerNet Maternity System

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust have announced their plans to digitize their maternity services by implementing System C’s BadgerNet maternity system.

As part of the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Acute Hospital Alliance (BSW AHA), the three hospitals aim to provide a unified pregnancy record in the region, benefiting around 10,000 women and pregnant individuals. The Badger Notes app or portal will allow easy access to pregnancy records.

Salisbury and Bath are set to transition from a dual paper and digital notes system to a fully digital system by February and June 2025 respectively. Staff will have access to the BadgerNet single neonatal record, ensuring immediate access to pregnancy records for enhanced patient care.

Clare Gilliland, digital lead midwife at Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS FT, expressed excitement about the greater joined up care that System C’s BadgerNet system will provide. Community midwives will benefit from real-time recording capabilities, preventing duplication of information.

Guy Lucchi, managing director of healthcare at System C, praised the collaboration with the three trusts and highlighted the milestone of uniting records across the region. Plans for a shared EPR with Oracle Health and NHS England’s support for a go-live in 2026 were also mentioned.

The BadgerNet maternity system was recently implemented at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust in June 2024, demonstrating the system’s positive impact on maternity services.
