When a child falls ill, parents do whatever it takes to ensure their well-being. That’s the same path Kieron and Claire Dunn took when they sought medical care for their son. Unfortunately, the doctors’ dismissal of his symptoms proved to be a fatal mistake.
Doctors Dismiss Teen Boy’s Pain: A Deadly Mistake
After complaining of severe stomach pain, Jack Dunn, a healthy 17-year-old, was taken to the hospital. However, doctors were unable to diagnose his condition and dismissed his symptoms as stress-related.
“When Jack was finding it difficult to breathe, the doctor thought it was probably anxiety because Jack was anxious about being in hospital” Mr. Dunn said.
Despite Jack’s deteriorating condition, the doctors sent him home after a constipation scan. Tragically, Jack passed away due to ketoacidosis resulting from extreme constipation.
Understanding the Symptoms and Risk Factors of Ketoacidosis
Ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition, occurs when the body produces high levels of blood acid known as ketones. It manifests in several symptoms, and people with diabetes are particularly vulnerable.
It’s crucial to be proactive about health and to advocate for thorough medical care. In Jack’s case, an oversight in testing for ketones proved to be fatal.
