Rachel’s journey at the charity shop began as a result of changes in her own life. Over her twenty years there, she has observed the transformations in her customers’ lives as well.
Reflecting on her start in 2002, Rachel shares, “I started volunteering after being at home with my children, and I ended up loving it so much that I stayed. It’s been heartwarming to see familiar faces over the years, from babies growing up to older customers visiting regularly.”
She also contemplates the aging population and the importance of supporting older individuals. “Loneliness is a major issue for seniors, and Age UK’s services play a vital role in providing companionship and support,” she emphasizes.
Dedicated to her work, Rachel envisions staying at the charity shop for years to come. She humorously adds, “I’ve been here so long, I might as well have my ashes scattered here! But in all seriousness, the impact we make here is truly meaningful.”
