My Passion for Trying New Workouts Led Me to The Class
For the past eight years, I’ve had a blast experimenting with various workout styles as part of my Fit Girl Era journey. From Pound to Tracy Anderson Method and SolidCore, to more traditional classes like yoga, Orangetheory, and Zumba, I’ve always loved exploring movement in its many forms and getting a good sweat in. So when I was approached by The Class, a popular workout that’s been around since 2013, I was intrigued even though I had no idea what to expect. The name alone was enough to pique my curiosity, and after visiting the brand’s website, I discovered that The Class is described as “the workout where fitness meets mindfulness,” with a promise to help you “unstuck yourself.”
Discovering The Class: More than Just A Workout
Creator Taryn Toomey was inspired to develop The Class after seeking a more cathartic practice than yoga following the birth of her child. The result was a unique blend of strength, mindful movement, and breathwork that is now known as The Class. Every in-person session, which typically lasts 60 minutes, involves cardio, strength training, and guided meditation set to an epic playlist that will make you feel more like you’re at a rock concert than a workout. At the end of The Class, you can expect to feel stronger in your body, calmer in your mind, and more connected to yourself—a one-of-a-kind experience that truly sets it apart from other workouts.
Creating a Compassionate Connection to One’s Body
One of the key elements that make The Class unique is its focus on somatic movement—exercises designed to calm the nervous system and build bodily awareness through repetitive movements, which is unlike any fitness class I’ve taken before. The goal is not to change your physical shape, but rather to strengthen your body from within, enhancing connection to yourself, behavior, and needs. The Class also offers a holistic approach to wellness with additional offerings such as The Class Sculpt, yoga, meditation, and breathwork practices. Whether it’s in-person or online, The Class aims to provide a transformative experience that goes beyond just physical fitness.
My Experience with The Class: A Journey from Self-Consciousness to Liberation
During my first visit to The Class studio in Los Angeles, I found myself initially self-conscious and uncomfortable as I observed others freely engage in movement. However, once I let go of my inhibitions and allowed myself to move with the music, I experienced a sense of release and liberation, as all my muscles came to life and energy flowed through my body. The challenging workouts, including repetitive moves and burpees, pushed me both physically and mentally, ultimately leaving me feeling stronger and more in tune with myself. It was an empowering and invigorating experience that surpassed my expectations.
Overall, my encounter with The Class was transformative and impactful, leaving me feeling stronger, more connected, and with a renewed sense of self. Whether in-person or online, The Class offers a truly unique and uplifting workout experience that I highly recommend to anyone seeking to reconnect with their body and mind.
