Yeovil Hospital Clinicians Gain Access to Dorset Patients’ GP Data Through Somerset’s Shared Care Record
Previously, clinicians at Yeovil Hospital struggled to access the GP records of Dorset patients due to different Integrated Care Systems. In a bid to improve this, the Somerset Integrated Digital e-Record (SIDeR+) was connected with TPP’s SystmOne primary care records in Dorset in July 2024.
This integration was spearheaded by NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board (ICB) and technology partner Black Pear Software. Dr. Bilal Ahmed, emergency department consultant at Yeovil Hospital, emphasized the importance of unified data-sharing systems in enhancing emergency patient care quality across borders.
The integration not only enables efficient patient care but also allows for the creation and sharing of care plans between Yeovil Hospital and GP practices in Dorset. Black Pear CEO David Jehring praised the solution for breaking down care system barriers and improving patient care quality.
The SIDeR+ service is set to expand further, with plans to incorporate more healthcare organizations near Somerset’s borders. Currently accessed over 35,000 times monthly by frontline healthcare staff, SIDeR+ aims to ensure all patients receive high-quality care in Somerset, regardless of their location.
In December 2023, Better Meds electronic prescribing system was integrated with SIDeR+, streamlining medication information across care providers. Additionally, a digital platform for NHS continuing healthcare support eligibility assessment is planned for September 2024.
