Science Creates Accelerate is proud to announce the launch of its second UK-wide engineering biology accelerator programme. This programme aims to provide support to deep tech start-ups and innovators in advancing inventions that will have a positive impact on the health of the population.
Building on the success of the first engineering biology accelerator launched last year in partnership with UK Research and Innovation, the 2024 programme is once again funded by UK Research and Innovation’s Technology Missions Fund, with backing from top European and US venture capitalists.
A unique aspect of this accelerator programme is the partnership with venture capitalists who do not take equity or Right of First Refusal in companies formed through the accelerator. This alignment of interests aims to provide deep tech founders and entrepreneurs with the optimal conditions for success.
The programme is open to early-stage engineering biology start-ups as well as individuals looking to launch their own venture in this field. Joining forces with SCVC, Science Creates’ official venture arm, are prominent firms like Amino Collective, Giant VC, Local Globe, and Pillar VC in supporting Science Creates Accelerate.
Dr Harry Destecroix, founder of Science Creates, expressed the vision behind the accelerator programme, emphasizing the importance of providing direct training and mentorship for scientists transitioning into entrepreneurship. The focus is on creating a platform for collaboration between top VCs and founders to drive innovations in healthcare and sustainability.
The hybrid programme will take place in Bristol at Science Creates’ deep tech hub, with remote participation also available. Over a nine-week period, 24 participants will benefit from training, workshops, and connections with investors crucial to their start-up journey.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to access equity-free feasibility funding from UK Research and Innovation. Last year, 19 companies participated in the programme, with over half receiving funding to further develop their ideas.
To reach potential applicants, the Accelerator Roadshow will visit cities across the UK in March. The programme offers 24 coveted spots, and expressions of interest can be submitted until April 3rd for those interested in joining.
