Exciting Developments at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust (SaTH) as New £3.6m Gamma Camera Begins Operation
The latest addition to the medical equipment at SaTH is the state-of-the-art gamma camera, a significant investment in nuclear medicine in the region. Designed for detecting cancer, paediatric conditions, and other acute illnesses, this advanced technology will benefit patients at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) technology, the gamma camera provides higher quality images compared to conventional methods. This promises improved capacity for cancer scanning and reduced waiting times for patients, a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services.
According to Laurence Ginder, associate medical director at SaTH, “The introduction of the gamma camera marks a milestone in our commitment to providing top-notch medical imaging services. This investment not only expands our imaging capabilities but also streamlines the diagnosis and treatment journey for our patients.”
Additionally, the new gamma camera investment complements the services available at the Community Diagnostic Centre in Telford. With additional facilities like cardiorespiratory services, radiology, pathology, and teledermatology services, SaTH aims to attract specialized staff and retain their workforce, ensuring continued high-quality care for patients.
Among the first patients to experience the new gamma camera was Simon Burgess, who expressed his satisfaction with the modern and welcoming environment. The introduction of this cutting-edge equipment aligns with SaTH’s digital transformation journey, with plans to implement System C’s CareFlow electronic patient record for improved healthcare management.
