Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has successfully integrated the national GP Connect with its electronic patient record system, allowing authorized healthcare professionals to access patients’ GP records. This move positions Rotherham at the forefront of patient data sharing in the UK. Spearheaded by the pharmacy technician team and Meditech UK, the integration overcomes the challenge of maintaining accurate patient medication records manually. The seamless integration enables healthcare professionals to access the latest patient data from GP records with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response. This integration offers numerous benefits, including real-time medication list updates, reducing the risk of misinterpretation of GP records, and ultimately leading to quicker treatment and shorter queues. GP Connect also allows healthcare professionals to view and update patient care records, manage appointments, and NHS England is working towards enabling patients to access their own care records, appointments, and prescriptions through GP Connect. Mike Hooton, from Meditech, expressed excitement about the successful integration at Rotherham Hospital, highlighting the positive impact it will have on patient care in the region.
