NHS England partners with CLEO Systems for electronic prescribing solution
NHS England has collaborated with CLEO Systems to implement a stand-alone electronic prescribing solution for pharmacies involved in the Independent Prescribing in Community Pharmacy Pathfinder Programme. This initiative aims to facilitate independent prescribing for patients in primary care, in preparation for the mandatory registration of newly qualified pharmacists as independent prescribers by September 2026.
Under the Pathfinder programme, up to 210 community pharmacy sites across England will utilize the CLEO SOLO electronic prescribing system to issue electronic prescriptions for minor ailments. Approved by integrated care boards, 13 clinical models will cover a variety of treatments such as hypertension, respiratory issues, contraception, and more.
CLEO Systems has closely worked with NHS England to develop and test the electronic prescribing solution, ensuring its effectiveness in clinical settings. Richard Burton, commercial director at CLEO Systems, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the positive impact the technology will have on patient care and overall health system efficiency.
The implementation of CLEO SOLO EPS has already witnessed success at various NHS trusts, improving patient experience and enhancing safety by eliminating issues associated with traditional paper prescriptions. Moving forward, pharmacies in England are set to transition to electronic prescribing, streamlining the prescription process and delivering better healthcare outcomes.
