Have you ever found yourself recognizing more celebrities during the “In Memoriam” segment than at the Oscars awards ceremony? Welcome to the Celebrity Generation Gap.
Trying to keep up with the ever-changing faces of Hollywood can be a challenge. I often confuse Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling, and it took me a while to distinguish between Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslett.
The celebrity generation gap works both ways. A friend of mine jokingly asked his building’s porter, a 23-year-old named Loren, if he was related to Sophia Loren. The response? “Who?”
And just last year, I excitedly mentioned to a colleague that Senior Planet was going to interview Ann-Margret. The response? “Who’s that?”
It’s surprising how different our celebrity knowledge can be based on age. My younger friends probably feel the same way when I mix up Kirsten Stewart and Jenna Malone.
