The Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust (NGH) has entered into a decade-long agreement with Nervecentre to deploy its electronic patient record (EPR) system.
This cloud-based EPR aims to facilitate the digitalization of healthcare services at the trust, improving care for patients and staff by granting clinicians access to real-time medical records for informed clinical decision-making.
The system also allows teams to retrieve information via mobile technology, reducing the reliance on paper.
According to Hemant Nemade, medical director at University Hospitals of Northamptonshire, the Nervecentre EPR empowers clinicians to deliver timely and accurate care to patients consistently.
He further added, “This digital transformation not only enhances the well-being of our patients and staff but also promotes environmentally sustainable care delivery and strengthens collaboration with healthcare partners in the East Midlands and beyond.”
Following a competitive tender process and funding allocation from NHS England in May 2024, NGH and Nervecentre finalized their contract.
NHS England’s commitment of £1.9 billion aims to ensure all NHS trusts meet a core level of digitalization, including the implementation of EPR systems.
This investment seeks to provide health and care staff with access to health-related information, enabling efficient, effective, and safe care delivery, reducing variation, and improving outcomes.
Paul Volkaerts, CEO of Nervecentre, expressed his excitement at welcoming NGH to the expanding Nervecentre EPR community, emphasizing the safety and efficiency improvements at NGH and the potential for transformative regional collaboration.
In addition to NGH, Nottingham University Hospitals, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS trusts also finalized multi-year EPR contracts with Nervecentre in 2024.
These trusts, along with others using Nervecentre software in the region, will operate on the same EPR platform for secure data exchange while respecting local record-sharing preferences.
Furthermore, NHS Norfolk and Waveney Acute Hospital Collaborative announced a £88 million deal with Meditech for an EPR system in July 2024.
Other trusts, such as University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, and the Acute Hospital Alliance, have also made significant strides in adopting EPR systems for enhanced healthcare delivery.
