The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has released draft guidance on the digital supported self-management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Approved technologies for COPD management under this draft guidance include Lenus Health, Active+me REMOTE, Clinitouch, COPDhub, Luscii, and myCOPD. Additionally, the online self-management programme, SPACE for COPD, has been approved pending regulatory approval.
These technologies have been approved for a three-year period under the Early Value Assessment (EVA) program, showcasing their potential to improve outcomes and reduce emergency hospital admissions for the 1.7 million people in the UK affected by COPD.
The draft guidance emphasizes the benefits of using digital platforms for remote monitoring of COPD, empowering individuals to recognize symptoms and escalate care appropriately. Consultation on this guidance is open until July 8, 2024.
Lenus Health’s Treat service, included in the draft guidance, offers comprehensive support for COPD patients based on promising findings from the RECEIVER clinical trial. Further investment in respiratory research is urged to improve outcomes for those with lung conditions like COPD.
