The NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care System (ICS) has confirmed that its IT systems are in the process of being restored after experiencing a network outage.
Initially reported at 16.30 on 11 June 2024, the ICS stated that they were facing significant IT issues affecting hospitals and other NHS locations. This led to the possibility of rescheduling outpatient appointments and operations. The cause was identified as a local issue, ruling out a cyber attack.
With business continuity plans in place, clinical teams are working diligently to ensure patient care and treatment are maintained. The affected entities include Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, GP surgeries, and community providers.
By 18.00 on 11 June, the ICS spokesperson announced that “IT systems are gradually returning online following the earlier network outage.” Restoration efforts will continue throughout the evening and overnight.
Outpatient appointments, planned procedures, and operations are scheduled to proceed as planned the following day. Patients are advised to attend their appointments, while those whose appointments were postponed will be contacted for rescheduling. GP surgeries remain open for scheduled appointments.
