NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) urgently needs donations of O Positive and O Negative blood to replenish stocks after a ransomware attack disrupted pathology services in London.

The cyber attack on Synnovis on 3 June 2024 has caused cancellations at multiple NHS trusts and affected GP services in several London boroughs.

Hospitals are unable to match patients’ blood as frequently as usual, leading to postponed operations and appointments. O Negative and O Positive blood donors are needed to support ongoing surgeries and treatments.

NHSBT is urging donors in 25 NHS blood donor centres to come forward, as O-type blood is crucial for patient safety and essential for various treatments.

According to experts, the ransomware attack is linked to the Russian cybercrime group Qilin. NHS staff are working tirelessly to minimize disruption and provide care amidst this challenging situation.
