The National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP) at Columbia University’s Climate School has received a $1.5 million grant from FEMA’s National Training and Education Division. The grant, titled ‘Training Solutions: Enhancing Tribal Nations’ Readiness and Resilience,’ will span three years and aims to improve preparedness and resilience in Tribal Nations.
In collaboration with the National Tribal Emergency Management Council, NCDP will develop and deliver a new training program. The program will offer courses on topics such as Climate Literacy, Disaster Risk Reduction Resources, Risk Communication Techniques, Community Engagement for Emergency Preparedness, and Emergency Management Program Development tailored to Tribal Nations’ cultural, values, and governance structures. These trainings seek to address preparedness gaps and align with FEMA’s National Tribal Strategy, ultimately fostering innovative training capabilities and closing the gap in preparedness for Tribal Nations.
