Sheila Solomon, 72, host of Senior Planet’s new podcast, Aging Rewired, brings a wealth of experience to the world of journalism. With over 51 years in the industry, Sheila has worked with esteemed publications such as Newsday, The Charlotte Observer, and the Chicago Tribune, where she won awards for her reporting and editing. Currently serving as the Strategic Alliance Manager at Rivet360 in Chicago, Sheila is also the co-founder of Journalism Funding Partners, supporting local journalism initiatives. Her accolades include induction into the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications Hall of Fame at Hampton University. Despite her global experiences and career transitions, Sheila remains dedicated to journalism, now exploring the fusion of technology and aging through Aging Rewired.

Did you ever envision yourself hosting a podcast?

After initially pursuing broadcasting post-graduation from Hampton University and facing rejection, I found my calling in print journalism. Despite uncertainties after leaving the Chicago Tribune, opportunities led me back to journalism, ultimately landing me in the podcast realm with Rivet360.

What exciting topics will you explore in future episodes?

Our upcoming episodes will delve into a myriad of subjects, from a documentary collaboration by older adults in Ohio to conversations with organizations associated with OATS/AARP. We aim to cover LGBTQ+ topics, among other engaging themes.

What impact do you hope Aging Rewired will have on its listeners?

I envision Aging Rewired as a platform to empower older adults to embrace technology fully. It’s about fostering connections, introducing inspiring individuals, and shedding light on new opportunities for our listeners.

What does Aging with attitude mean to you?

Aging with attitude is about defying expectations and living life to the fullest. It’s about breaking stereotypes, embracing freedom, and staying engaged in new experiences and endeavors.
