Not long ago, Medicare Advantage television commercials only aired before Medicare Open Enrollment. Now, these promotions run year-round, offering a variety of plans sponsored by health care companies. Many people don’t understand the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans. Open Enrollment runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 for Medicare, and Jan. 1 through March 31 for Medicare Advantage. Medicare covers Parts A & B, while Medicare Advantage plans are run by private insurers. Each option has pros and cons, so it’s crucial to understand them before making a choice. Original Medicare offers provider flexibility and Medigap coverage, but has no out-of-pocket limit and fewer benefits. Medicare Advantage plans have lower costs and more supplemental benefits, but limited choice of doctors and prior authorization requirements. Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on individual needs and preferences. Share your preference in the comments!
