The BadgerNet maternity electronic health record (EHR) system from System C has been implemented across the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) to empower parents-to-be with access to their pregnancy and maternity records.
Goole NHS Foundation Trust was the final trust in the region to launch the system in September 2024, following successful implementations at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in March 2024.
Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust were the first in the region to introduce the system in March 2023.
Liz Davies, digital midwife at Hull University Teaching Hospital, expressed the benefits of having BadgerNet active in every trust within Humber and North Yorkshire, promoting seamless transitions for patients across units.
With the integration of BadgerNet and the parent portal Badger Notes, the need for traditional paper notes for maternity care is eliminated, allowing for real-time updates and a personalized approach to patient care.
Midwives can now save time by entering information only once into the electronic system, promoting efficiency and enhancing the quality of care provided.
Becky Case, programme director for the region’s Local Maternity and Neonatal System, commended the midwifery workforce for embracing the new system and promoting patient choice and inclusivity in maternity care.
Early feedback from users of Badger Notes in York and Scarborough has been positive, highlighting the convenience and security of having access to their records digitally.
Furthermore, the expansion of the virtual ward service with the support of Inhealthcare demonstrates the commitment of the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership to leveraging technology for improved patient outcomes.
