LungHealth Software to Be Implemented at 150 GP Practices in Greater Manchester

A new software designed to facilitate computer-guided consultations is set to be rolled out at 150 GP practices across Greater Manchester. The LungHealth solution, part of the MISSION project launched by Health Innovation Manchester and Chiesi UK and Ireland, aims to improve adult asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) care.

Utilizing embedded algorithms based on national and international guidelines, LungHealth will offer computer-guided consultations for asthma and COPD annual reviews, allowing for remote or face-to-face assessments. The software also directs patients to available community support services, provides clinical prompts for healthcare professionals, and seeks to enhance the overall quality and consistency of reviews.

The collaboration between Health Innovation Manchester and Chiesi aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of technology in addressing health challenges, with the goal of improving outcomes for asthma and COPD patients in Greater Manchester. By streamlining clinical reviews and ensuring adherence to the latest guidelines, the LungHealth software is poised to deliver more efficient care while supporting the NHS’s green agenda by reducing hospital admissions due to asthma and COPD exacerbations.

As part of the project, data collected will inform NHS decision-making on the long-term adoption of technology for respiratory reviews, with the potential to transform respiratory care delivery in the region. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare provision, meeting community needs, and easing the workload for healthcare professionals.

In line with evolving practices in respiratory care, the introduction of LungHealth software represents a progressive approach to addressing the challenges faced by patients with chronic respiratory conditions. Through innovative technology solutions like LungHealth, the healthcare system endeavors to provide comprehensive care, improve patient outcomes, and optimize resources for better health management.

The launch of LungHealth software at 150 GP practices in Greater Manchester signifies a significant advancement in respiratory care delivery, fostering collaboration between technology developers, healthcare providers, and patients to enhance the quality and efficiency of care.
