Landon Barker is speaking out about his health journey. In a recent TikTok video, the son of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler confirmed that he has “very, very minor Tourette’s.” This is something he has experienced since preschool and manifests as head jerks or jaw movements.
Barker explained that his Tourette’s acts up in nervous situations and nerve-wracking environments for him. Stress, anxiety, tiredness, excitement, and sickness can exacerbate tics, which are characteristic of Tourette syndrome and can involve motor or vocal movements.
While Tourette syndrome is more common in males and often improves with age, there is still a stigma attached to the condition. Public figures like Barker, Billie Eilish, and Lewis Capaldi speaking openly about their experiences can help destigmatize the condition.
At the end of his TikTok, Barker expressed his desire to discuss his Tourette’s diagnosis in a casual manner, highlighting the importance of normalizing conversations about conditions like Tourette syndrome.
