Jay Leno has kept a private stance on his wife Mavis’ dementia battle, a decision many respect as they face this challenging health issue. Fans were delighted to see the couple of 44 years make a rare appearance at the red carpet premiere of Unfrosted where they provided a sweet update on Mavis’ health.
“I feel great,” Mavis told Entertainment Tonight on the carpet, as they posed for pictures together. “It’s nice to attend something fun for a change,” Jay added about their date night. “In a world so controversial, enjoying a funny, light-hearted movie is wonderful. I think people will have a great time.”
Speaking about their enduring relationship, Jay mentioned, “We have a great time. What, 44 years? We’re doing good.”
The Lenos had not previously discussed Mavis’ health struggles before Jay sought conservatorship of their joint estate in January. A court in Los Angeles granted the conservatorship last month, allowing Jay to manage Mavis’ living trust and estate plans in case he passes away before her.
Court documents revealed that Jay has been caring for Mavis’ daily needs as her condition has worsened over the years. Mavis has been diagnosed with dementia, and Jay requested the conservatorship due to her incapacity to execute the estate plan.
Despite the challenges, the couple continues to enjoy their time together, both on and off the red carpet. When asked about his recent birthday celebration, Jay humbly replied, “I’m not big on birthdays. My life is a celebration every day.”
“Neither of us are,” Mavis concurred, embracing her husband. “We only have each other.”
