Integration key to removing friction and promoting digital inclusion – Payne
In his keynote address at Rewired24, Alan Payne, Group product and engineering director at The Access Group, emphasized the importance of integration in the care system. He highlighted the role of technology in engaging individuals in their own care and promoting digital equity. Payne believes that integration is essential to eliminating barriers in the care system and ensuring digital inclusion is a fundamental aspect of design.
Age UK’s CEO, Paul Farmer, also discussed the Digital Champion Programme, which aims to empower older adults to embrace the benefits of technology. Through recruiting and training volunteer digital champions, the program strives to enhance digital skills and confidence among older individuals. Farmer stressed the need for designers to prioritize digital inclusion and shift the conversation towards inclusion rather than exclusion.
Joining them on stage, Matthew Boazman, CEO at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, emphasized the importance of co-production in reducing digital poverty. The key takeaway from the session was the necessity for collaboration between healthcare systems and older adults to enhance digital confidence and accessibility.
