Instant Pot Sticky Rice
We are absolutely in love with this Instant Pot Sticky Rice. When we’re in need of sticky rice in a hurry and cooked to perfection, the Instant Pot is our go-to. It’s ready in under 15 minutes – can you believe it?
We’re all about rice here at FFF (especially Lee), and our friend Pachee taught us her family’s method for making sticky rice a few years back; we absolutely adore it! This sticky rice recipe is perfect for those who need sticky rice in a pinch and can’t get enough of their Instant Pot. We used this sticky rice recipe in our sushi burrito and easy spicy tuna roll recipes. It’s truly versatile!
What You Need for Instant Pot Sticky Rice
All you need for this sticky rice is an Instant Pot and long-grain glutinous rice. We prefer the Apple Brand Sweet Rice, but any type of sweet or glutinous rice will work just fine.
Substitutes & Variations
There aren’t many substitutions or variations for this recipe. We highly recommend sticking to glutinous sweet rice – other types of rice won’t give you that perfect sticky texture. Jasmine rice may cook using this method, but it won’t turn out sticky.
Tips for Instant Pot Sticky Rice
Be sure to rinse the rice before cooking. The measurements for this recipe are crucial for perfect rice. Avoid adding any oil or butter to the pot before cooking as it will prevent the rice from being sticky.
If you get a ‘burn notice’, release the pressure from the Instant Pot. If the rice isn’t done, add about 1/4 cup of water, stir, and cook for an additional 1 minute.
Storage
Let the rice cool completely before storing in an airtight container. It will last 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or in a steamer.
Freezer Directions
Let the rice cool completely before transferring to an airtight, freezer-safe container. It will keep for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Serving Suggestions
This sticky rice goes well with kung pao shrimp, easy kung pao chicken, or teriyaki chicken stir fry.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sweet rice (we used Apple Brand Sweet Rice)
- 2 cups water
Tips & Notes
Do not add oil to the sticky rice as it will prevent it from sticking. If the rice is still too firm after releasing the pressure, cover and let it sit for 2-3 minutes.
