Last year, as my husband and I debated moving back to New York from the suburbs, I failed to consider a major benefit – the constant stream of visitors! Friends from various stages of life always swing through town, making impromptu visits a regular occurrence. Despite the drawbacks of city living, the joy of hosting loved ones for casual weeknight dinners far outweighs any inconveniences. The transition to cooking for just two after becoming empty nesters has its perks, but I do miss the vibrant energy my daughters and their friends bring to the table. Their diverse stories and youthful perspectives are a constant source of inspiration and entertainment. These visits not only allow me to care for them but also provide comfort and support in return. Cooking for these young adults is a delight, as I experiment with easy yet delicious recipes like homemade focaccia and cider-glazed sausages with caramelized apples & fennel. The shared meals and conversations create connections that nourish both body and soul, reaffirming the importance of nurturing relationships through food and fellowship.
