“I Made My Husband the Hero of My Memoir; My Marriage Ended Before It Was Published”
When I wrote my book, I did not dedicate it to my husband, even though he played a significant role in many of the essays. I decided to highlight his charming qualities in a conversational manner throughout the book, but I consciously chose to leave out the deeper issues within our marriage. As I worked on edits and marketing, I struggled with how to portray my relationship to the world. Ultimately, my marriage came to an end, and I realized that it was probably doomed from the start. Despite the challenges, I am now happier and healthier than ever, and I look forward to the next phase of my life. From now on, the hero in my story will be me.
