When it comes to the fitness world, doing it in a heated room is like adding an egg to a dish – it takes the experience to a whole new level. This concept, already popular in yoga, has now made its way to Pilates, leading to a hot Pilates trend sweeping the country. Studios have been popping up in major cities like Los Angeles, Denver, and Detroit, offering heated Pilates classes. Chelsea Stewart, the founder of HAVN Hot Pilates in Denver, raves about hot Pilates, calling it a transformative mind, body, and soul experience.

So, what exactly is hot Pilates? Hot Pilates involves doing Pilates exercises in a heated environment. The heat can come from various sources such as infrared or standard heaters, but the purpose remains the same. Whether it’s mat Pilates or the machine variety, working out in the heat adds an extra challenge. The slow and controlled nature of Pilates, known for its focus on core strength and flexibility, becomes even more intense in a heated setting.

According to Angela Parretta, CEO of Drenched, a heated Pilates studio in Newport Beach, the heat amplifies every aspect of the workout. Practitioners become more aware of their bodies, movements, and breath, taking their mental focus to new heights. The warmth encourages deeper stretches, activates muscles more quickly, and boosts cardiovascular activity without the need for high-impact exercises.

Aside from the physical benefits, the emotional and spiritual experience of hot Pilates can also be transformative. Lara Rasmussen, the founder of Hot Bones yoga and Pilates studio, notes that the immediate calming sensation of infrared heat creates a unique atmosphere that allows practitioners to escape from the outside world and fully immerse themselves in the practice.

While hot Pilates offers many benefits, there are some risks to consider before diving in. The heat puts extra strain on the body, requiring more energy to regulate internal temperature. Sweating increases to cool the skin, potentially leading to dehydration. Blood flow also increases, making muscles more pliable and improving flexibility. However, with increased exertion comes the need for caution.

To make the most of hot Pilates, stay hydrated, fuel your body with proper nutrition, wear sweat-wicking clothing, and be mindful of overstretching. Focus on controlled movements, breathwork, and core engagement to prevent injury. Remember to listen to your body and come back to the breath if you need to refocus. By following these guidelines, you can safely enjoy the benefits of hot Pilates and take your workout to the next level.
