Holly Health digital health and wellbeing tool reduces GP appointments

Primary Care Networks utilizing the innovative Holly Health digital health and wellbeing coaching tool have witnessed a decline in GP appointments among their patients. Data shows that individuals who engage with the service for eight weeks or more require 0.22 fewer appointments every eight weeks, translating to 1.4 fewer appointments per user annually.

Notably, patients with higher risk factors, such as those with Type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, have experienced significant reductions in appointments. For instance, Type 2 diabetes patients have seen an estimated average of 6.5 fewer appointments per year, while non-alcoholic fatty liver disease patients have had 3.25 fewer appointments annually.

Furthermore, users have reported improvements in exercise, mood, and self-management by using the digital tool to facilitate behavioral changes for better long-term health outcomes. Grace Gimson, CEO of Holly Health, emphasized the platform’s success in enabling patients to achieve behavior modifications and improve health outcomes, highlighting the positive impact on both individual and population health.

With over 35,000 people supported across 180 NHS primary care partnerships, Holly Health has demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing appointments and enhancing outcomes for high-risk users. A recent deployment in the Ayrshire region is poised to deliver personalized support to thousands of local patients annually.

The remarkable improvements in mental wellbeing and exercise levels among users underscore the transformative potential of Holly Health’s approach. NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s clinical director, Alexia Pellowe, commended the partnership with Holly Health for its ability to drive preventive interventions and improve patient outcomes while boosting cost efficiencies.

As Holly Health expands its reach, partnerships with organizations like Age UK Lewisham and Southwark to provide mental and physical health coaching for individuals aged 50-70+ further demonstrate the positive impact of digital health tools on enhancing overall wellbeing and reducing healthcare burdens.
