The government has launched an innovative online platform, Change.NHS.uk, to gather feedback and ideas from the public, NHS staff, and experts in order to shape its upcoming 10-year health plan.

This platform will be live until the beginning of 2025 and can be accessed through the NHS App. The feedback received will be instrumental in shaping the government’s vision for the future of healthcare, which includes significant shifts towards community-based care, digital healthcare solutions, and a focus on preventative measures.

Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, emphasized the importance of transforming the NHS to ensure its sustainability and effectiveness in the years to come. He encouraged everyone to participate in this engagement exercise and contribute to building a healthcare system that meets the needs of patients and healthcare providers alike.

In addition to seeking input on the 10-year health plan, the government also announced plans to introduce a single patient record system through the NHS App. This initiative aims to empower patients by giving them control over their medical history and streamlining information for healthcare professionals.

The government’s commitment to moving towards a preventative healthcare model is further highlighted by exploring the integration of wearable technology for patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated the government’s dedication to improving the NHS and stressed the importance of listening to feedback from those who rely on the healthcare system daily. NHS England’s Chief Executive, Amanda Pritchard, emphasized the need for innovation and adaptation to meet the evolving healthcare landscape.

The launch of this national conversation on the future of the NHS follows a comprehensive report by Lord Ara Darzi, highlighting the urgent need for reform. Engaging with patients, staff, and the public is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring that the 10-year health plan reflects the diverse needs and perspectives within the healthcare sector.

Various healthcare organizations and associations have expressed support for the government’s initiative, recognizing the opportunities for positive change and improvement within the NHS. The online platform launch event in East London signifies the start of a nationwide dialogue that aims to shape the future of healthcare in the UK.
