Faculty Spotlight: Finding Hope Through Climate Science Research and Education
When Mingfang Ting was just 15 years old in China, she was directed into a meteorology track at Peking University, sparking her curiosity and passion for atmospheric science and climate research. Now a renowned climate scientist and educator, Ting is dedicated to studying topics such as Asian monsoon variability, heat waves, and the impact of climate change on agriculture and human health.
As a founding member and co-director of the M.A. Program in Climate and Society at the Columbia Climate School, Ting is committed to providing students with the knowledge and tools to address the climate crisis. Through her educational initiatives, she aims to inspire hope and optimism for the future, leveraging a deeper understanding of climate science as a pathway towards positive change.
Despite the challenges posed by climate change, Ting finds hope in the increasing adoption of renewable energy and the growing awareness of its economic and practical advantages. She believes that with continued efforts, there is a promising future ahead in the fight against climate change.
