Farmers are the epitome of hard work. They face countless challenges from nature but continue to persevere. From infestations to natural disasters, farming is no easy task. But one farmer’s harvest was in jeopardy when he suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, his fellow farmers came together to save the day by harvesting his crops while he recovered in the hospital.
Lane Unhjem, a farmer from Crosby, North Dakota, was in the midst of fighting a fire that broke out on his farm when he began experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. As he was rushed to the hospital, his crops awaited harvesting. This is when the local farmers stepped in. Approximately 60 farmers, along with various farming equipment, completed the harvest across 1,000 acres in just seven hours.
A family friend, Jenna Binde, was among the first to organize a group to help the Unhjem family. She was amazed by the response, as more and more people arrived to help without needing to be called. The community rallied together to support the Unhjems during this difficult time, demonstrating the true farming way of life – helping your neighbor without expecting anything in return.
Lane Unhjem has a long road to recovery, but knowing that his community is there to help him and his family offers some comfort. The selfless actions of the local farmers have saved the Unhjems from the headache of figuring out how to harvest their crops without Lane or a combine. The family is overwhelmed by the support they have received during this trying time.
Unhjem remains in a stable condition, and the community continues to rally around him. The hardworking and supportive nature of the farming community in helping a neighbor in need is truly inspirational.
We send our best wishes to Lane Unhjem and his family as he recovers from his heart attack. To support the Unhjem family during this difficult time, you can contribute to their Go Fund Me.
