It’s important to recognize that nature operates as a continuous cycle, and when we disrupt it, we hinder its proper function. Xenophon, a contemporary and friend of Socrates, understood the significant role we can play in stewarding and caring for the environment. Over 2,500 years ago, Xenophon wrote in Oikonomikos, “The earth willingly teaches righteousness to those who can learn; for the better she is served, the more good things she gives in return.” It’s easy to forget that we are a part of nature, but taking a moment each day to remember this can begin the process of regenerating our environment.
