Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) has partnered with Nervecentre to implement an electronic prescribing and medicines administration system (ePMA) in all its hospitals in Wales.
The five-year contract for the Nervecentre ePMA is set to commence before the end of 2024, with hospitals in Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Bridgend adopting the system in 2025.
This new digital system aims to enhance patient care by replacing paper drug charts with a more efficient and accurate electronic method, reducing medication errors and improving clinical decision-making processes.
CTM UHB’s Executive Medical Director, Dom Hurford, believes that digitizing prescribing practices will not only enhance patient safety but also boost service efficiency.
By joining the national Digital Medicines Programme, CTM UHB aligns with the goal of ensuring safer and more efficient medication management across Wales.
Welsh Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Andrew Evans, sees ePMA as a pivotal tool in transforming hospital care, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers.
Following in the footsteps of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, CTM UHB’s partnership with Nervecentre aims to revolutionize patient care in the region.
As the largest health board in Wales, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board also plans to implement the Better Meds ePMA system by March 2026.
