Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) declares critical incident, not cyber attack

NUH declared a critical incident on September 10, 2024, due to an IT failure in its pathology service affecting blood test results processing.

Patients are advised against visiting the phlebotomy service until further notice.

Dr Mark Simmonds, NUH’s deputy medical director, explains the impact on patients in a video.

The incident is not linked to a cyber attack, clarified a spokesperson to Digital Health News.

NUH’s website states that appointments should proceed as scheduled despite delays, with focus on prioritizing urgent blood tests.

Continued wise use of NHS services is urged, especially during increased pressures post-incident.

In 2021, Indica Labs was selected to aid NUH’s pathology workflow digitization with HALO AP software integrated into CliniSys WinPath system.

A ransomware attack on Synnovis in June 2024 caused a similar IT disruption, impacting multiple hospitals.
