An £11.5 million contract has been awarded to Magentus to deliver a laboratory information management system (LIMS) for the Cheshire and Merseyside Pathology Network.
This decision follows a competitive procurement process led by Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of Cheshire and Merseyside Diagnostics.
The LIMS, to be hosted by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, aims to improve patient outcomes by providing quicker test results and better access to pathology services.
Dr. Lisa Bailey, clinical lead for the network, emphasized the system’s benefits in standardizing practices, enhancing patient safety, reducing testing time, and supporting demand management.
The solution will connect five key pathology laboratories in the region, facilitating seamless test-taking and result-sharing among health care providers.
Christine Kelly, programme director for LIMS at Mid Mersey Digital Alliance, highlighted the system’s ability to prevent duplicate tests and provide comprehensive test histories for patient care decisions.
With a focus on supporting over 2,000 staff in conducting millions of pathology tests annually, Magentus CEO Christopher Ladds hailed the project as a step towards a unified pathology service aligned with the NHS Long Term Plan.
This initiative not only drives productivity in healthcare but also sets a new standard for efficiency and equity, ensuring a better experience for all involved.
Following successful implementations in NHS Scotland, Magentus continues to demonstrate its expertise in delivering cutting-edge LIMS solutions for healthcare networks.
