Celebrating special grandparents

Grandparents hold a special place in our hearts, shaping our childhood memories and teaching us valuable life lessons. Despite the distance, my Grandma Doreen made our visits up north unforgettable.
As kids, my sister and I eagerly anticipated our girls’ day out with Grandma – a bus ride to McDonalds and a merry-go-round spin. Those simple yet joyous moments created lasting bonds and cherished memories.
Grandma Doreen’s strong-willed nature was inspiring, especially when she triumphed at ten pin bowling post-heart attack. Despite challenges, her spirit never wavered.
During the pandemic, the separation felt harder, but our reunion was filled with love and resilience. Despite dementia, Grandma’s warmth and sassiness remained intact.
In a tribute to our treasured memories, I treated her to a nostalgic day out at McDonalds, reliving our shared joy over chicken nuggets. These moments are now cherished memories that inspire me to connect with older generations through Age UK.
