Rose Villa Senior Living in Portland, Oregon, has expanded its 22-acre garden campus with the addition of two new buildings at the urban core, enhancing resident wellbeing. The new construction phases added Schroeder Lofts apartments with a health clinic and Madrona Grove long-term care center, connected below ground and designed to complement each other.
Partnering with top firms like Scott Edwards Architecture and Bremik Construction, Rose Villa’s commitment to thoughtful design earned them the top prize in the 2023 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards for the best CCRC category.
The Concept
Planning for the new long-term care facility at Madrona Grove started in 2018 with a focus on creating a homely aesthetic. The project was part of a larger campus enhancement that included a performing arts center and an arts building to support the development of the health care center.
The Schroeder Lofts, designed with modern farmhouse aesthetics, feature multi-use spaces and outdoor living elements to promote a sense of home. The outdoor terrace offers views of Mt. Hood, enhancing the overall living experience.
The Construction
Despite supply chain challenges from the Covid-19 pandemic, construction of the new buildings was completed in 2022. The proximity of Madrona Grove to the old facility presented logistical challenges, which were overcome through collaborative efforts between designers, contractors, and staff.
The Completion
Rose Villa reported full occupancy in the new residential care home and loft units, with positive feedback from residents and staff. The community cafe and daycare facility have improved intergenerational connections and increased resident engagement.
With high demand for the new residences, Rose Villa maintains a waiting list for units, showcasing the success of the project in enhancing resident amenities and overall community livability.
