Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust have recently taken a significant step forward in their pathology transformation programme in Northern Ireland. Both trusts have deployed Clinisys WinPath, a laboratory information management system (LIMS), as part of a wider effort to modernize pathology services in the region.
Belfast and South Eastern are the first two trusts to deploy the LIMS, with Belfast going live with microbiology, blood sciences, and biochemistry in November, followed by South Eastern three days later. The implementation of the Core LIMS WinPath solution marks a significant achievement for health services in Northern Ireland and is expected to enhance care provision for all patients.
The upgrade to WinPath will replace older systems previously used by the trusts, resulting in improved efficiency and quality of testing services. The roll out of the new LIMS is part of a larger initiative to digitize health and social care services in Northern Ireland, aligning with efforts to standardize ways of working across the region.
Looking ahead, there are plans to deploy Clinisys WinPath to additional specialisms, starting with cellular pathology next spring. This initiative is part of a broader vision to establish a single patient record and a single LIMS across Northern Ireland, delivering significant benefits to laboratories, clinicians, and patients. Clinisys is committed to supporting the trusts and clinicians involved in delivering this ambitious vision.
