The Alzheimer’s Association has been awarded a $25 million grant to enhance support and resources for caregivers of individuals living with dementia. The grant will establish the Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI) to fund new respite care projects and improve the quality and availability of respite care nationwide. The CDRI will provide 20 grants annually for the next five years, totaling $4 million each year, while also offering online training and ongoing assistance. The goal is to develop and replicate new approaches to deliver dementia-focused respite services and to create a catalog of programs and resources to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia and their caregivers. The effort comes in response to a report showing significant gaps in access to respite care for caregivers. Grant applications will open in March with a deadline of May.
