Age-Related Frailty, a Case of All Too Little Prevention
The open access review paper discussed the lack of research into early manifestations and prevention of frailty, particularly in middle-aged adults. While resistance exercise is known to be effective in treating pre-frailty and frailty, more research is needed on early prevention strategies. Small molecule therapies targeting components of frailty are being developed, but it remains to be seen if they can match the benefits of exercise. The effectiveness of interventions to prevent or reverse pre-frailty and frailty in middle-aged adults is still under debate, with resistance training showing promising results. However, more research is needed to understand the most effective interventions for this age group.
