Operators evacuate residents, help one another

More than 300 healthcare facilities in Florida have been evacuated, marking one of the largest evacuations in the state’s history. Assisted living communities are also relocating residents to safer areas.

Gail Matillo from the Florida Senior Living Association stated that communities unable to evacuate have implemented safety measures and are coordinating with emergency management. The FSLA is working with regulatory agencies and partner organizations to find shelter for seniors and staff.

Some operators, like Distinctive Living, have successfully evacuated facilities in high-risk areas. Neighboring communities have offered to host displaced residents, showcasing a spirit of unity among operators.

Westminster Communities of Florida has relocated residents to various communities across the state. The organization expressed gratitude for the support received during the evacuation process.

While some operators are not under mandatory evacuation, they are still preparing for the storm. Innovation Senior Living is ensuring resident safety and readiness for any potential impact post-hurricane.

‘Stressed but prepared’

Senior living operators have been diligently preparing for hurricane season, assembling task forces, stocking supplies, and reinforcing communication channels. Efforts have been made to ensure the safety of residents and staff members.

Employee benefits, such as additional pay and recognition for their dedication, are being provided by operators like Innovation Senior Living and Distinctive Living. Assistance funds are being considered to support staff affected by the storm.

Despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Milton, operators remain resilient and committed to safeguarding their communities. Preparedness measures have been taken, and operators are bracing for potential power outages and other post-storm complications.

As the storm approaches, operators are anxiously waiting to see the impact of Hurricane Milton. Their focus remains on the safety and well-being of residents and staff, knowing that they are prepared to face whatever challenges may come their way.
