Last month, my world was shaken by the news of Tupperware filing for bankruptcy. The future of the company is uncertain, with plans to close its last US plant in 2025. This news may make us reflect on other iconic brands that have faded away, such as Blockbuster, Radio Shack, Bordens, Tower Records, Woolworths, and Toys “R” Us.
For me, Bordens and Radio Shack hold a special place in my heart. I have fond memories of meeting Elsie the Cow at Freedomland as a child and relying on Radio Shack for electronic components. It’s heartbreaking to see the loss of jobs and the impact on families and communities.
As we say goodbye to these iconic brands, it feels like a piece of our history and culture is disappearing. It also means explaining references like “Sleepless in Seattle” to younger generations. What other brands do you miss, and which ones do you think will be next to go? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments!
