Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Implements Electronic Prescription System for Outpatient Community Services
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has taken a significant step towards digital transformation by deploying CLEO Systems’ electronic prescription system (EPS) across various outpatient community services. This move aims to reduce the trust’s reliance on cumbersome paper-based prescriptions, which have previously caused administrative delays and security concerns.
The EPS has been introduced in critical areas such as the urgent treatment centre, older people’s mental health, community perinatal, urgent community response, frailty, and child and adolescent mental health services. Carol Ingham, the digital transformation programme manager at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, highlighted the importance of accurate and safe prescribing through this new system.
This initiative is expected to enhance patient safety, improve the overall patient experience, and boost staff efficiency by streamlining processes. The trust’s partnership with CLEO Systems aims to facilitate remote prescribing, enhance clinical efficiency, and reduce paper-based operations.
Following a successful proof of concept phase, Southern Health awarded the contract to CLEO Systems for an initial 24-month period, with potential extensions. Emma Dew, sales and marketing director at CLEO Systems, expressed excitement about the implementation of CLEO SOLO EPS in various healthcare settings.
The CLEO SOLO EPS, introduced in 2022, has already been implemented at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and four north east London trusts. Additionally, CLEO Systems collaborates with NHS England to provide electronic prescribing solutions for pharmacies participating in the Independent Prescribing in Community Pharmacy Pathfinder Programme.
