Leeds Teaching Hospitals Pilots AI Solution for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) is currently conducting a one-month pilot program to evaluate an AI solution developed by Lucida Medical. The pilot, which began in August 2024, aims to assess the effectiveness of the Prostate Intelligence (Pi) tool in improving prostate cancer diagnosis.
The advanced AI and machine learning software system, Pi, is designed to analyze prostate MRI images and assist radiologists in detecting potential cancer lesions, highlighting areas of concern, and assessing risk scores and prostate size. The goal is to streamline the complex prostate cancer diagnostic pathway and reduce waiting times for patients.
With the potential to provide rapid diagnostic results and facilitate quicker treatment decisions, the Pi tool could have a significant impact on prostate cancer management at LTHT. Following the pilot program, a prospective study is planned to further evaluate the tool’s impact on patient outcomes.
Investments from organizations like Macmillan Cancer Support highlight the importance of early detection and treatment in improving prostate cancer care.
