In this month’s Meet the Trainer interview, we had the opportunity to speak with Jess Fortin, a dedicated Senior Planet trainer from North Country New York.
What inspired you to become a Senior Planet trainer?
I was encouraged by a friend to apply at Senior Planet because of my passion for empowering others. My previous work involved helping individuals with disabilities learn and improve their skills, which prepared me well for the diverse challenges at Senior Planet. Building connections with our participants, adapting to their needs, and witnessing their growth is truly fulfilling.
My favorite part is seeing people boost their confidence and abilities!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Witnessing the transformation of individuals gaining confidence and embracing new skills is incredibly rewarding. Seeing someone step out of their comfort zone and persevere is a highlight for me.
What are your hobbies and passions outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my daughter during warmer months, engaging in activities like kayaking and hiking. In colder months, I indulge in hobbies like reading, crocheting, and scrapbooking.
What does “aging with attitude” mean to you?
To me, “aging with attitude” signifies believing in one’s capabilities at any age and rejecting the notion of being limited by age.
