The Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has chosen SYNLAB as its pathology supplier, following a cyber attack that disrupted services in London.
After a ransomware attack on Synnovis in June 2024, SYNLAB has been selected to provide pathology services for mid and south Essex, including blood, tissue, and sample testing, as well as operating phlebotomy clinics.
The 15-year contract, worth an estimated £935 million, will benefit patients and staff at GPs in the region and hospitals in Southend, Basildon, and Broomfield.
Dr. Faisal Bin-Reza, clinical director of pathology at Mid and South Essex NHS FT, stated that SYNLAB demonstrated the best capabilities to deliver high-quality pathology services for patients and staff.
SYNLAB is set to begin the contract after the final procurement stages, with a commitment to invest in technology and equipment to enhance service delivery for NHS patients and clinicians.
Additionally, SYNLAB Italia has reportedly been impacted by a cyber attack, disrupting laboratories, medical centers, and sampling points.
