The Royal Bolton Hospital, part of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, has recently implemented the Miya Flow patient flow system from Alcidion. This new system aims to enhance bed availability and improve the efficiency of patient intake, treatment, and discharge processes within the hospital.
Since the deployment of Miya Flow in May 2024, healthcare teams at the trust now have real-time access to bed status information through a digital ‘journey board’. This system also provides details on ward capacity and patient admission status, enabling staff to streamline patient movement and ensure timely and appropriate care.
Dawn Devine, head of clinical systems at Bolton NHS FT, expressed how the implementation of Miya Flow supports the trust’s goal of establishing a control center and improving patient flow visibility. This innovation not only enhances patient experience and safety but also facilitates better coordination among care teams.
In addition to Miya Flow, the trust utilizes Miya Observations for identifying patients at risk and integrating vital signs data with early warning scores. Imran Khan, urgent care lead at Bolton NHS FT, highlighted the benefits of this integrated approach in mapping patient treatment and delivering quality care efficiently.
The adoption of Miya Flow by Royal Bolton Hospital aligns with the NHS’s focus on efficient patient flow and reducing hospital stays. This system enables prompt discharge, minimizes clinical risks, and ultimately supports patients’ well-being and independence post-hospitalization.
Notably, other healthcare organizations like Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have also embraced advanced patient flow solutions to enhance their services.
