Colin Farrell shares a glimpse into his life caring for his 20-year-old son, James, who has Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disorder.
In a People cover story and video, Farrell discusses James’ symptoms, diagnosis, and how he inspired the Colin Farrell Foundation, launched to support people with disabilities and their families.
“I’m proud of him every day,” Farrell said of James. “I just think he’s magic.”
James was initially diagnosed with cerebral palsy before being correctly diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome. He experiences developmental delays, sleep issues, lack of speech, and seizures.
Farrell hopes to make a difference through the Colin Farrell Foundation, addressing the lack of support for families with special needs children through housing, day programs, caregiving wages, Medicaid funding, and more.
Despite being private about his family, Farrell opened up to promote the Foundation and improve the lives of those with intellectual disabilities like James. He believes James would support the cause wholeheartedly.
