A Cozy Family Home in Copenhagen

When Kate Imogen Wood and her husband first laid eyes on this house on the outskirts of Copenhagen, it lacked charm. Dating back to the 1800s, the house had been stripped of its original details, sporting a less-than-appealing black-and-lime-green color scheme, laminate floors, and plastic doors. However, the couple had a vision and transformed the space into a cozy home for their growing family. Here’s a glimpse into the beautiful home they share with their two adorable boys…

KITCHEN
The kitchen features cabinets and drawer fronts from Ask og Eng, paired with Ikea carcasses to stay within budget. Kate made curtains that hang on aged brass poles for a cottage-style touch. The kitchen island countertop is Corian in “Sand.” The high chairs are from Stokke. A grasscloth panel adds warmth to the space.

On intergenerational living, Kate shares that their neighbors feel like grandparents to their kids. Despite the noise, they have never complained. The neighborhood has older residents who have watched the family grow, creating a sense of community and understanding.

The kitchen underwent a significant renovation, as the house had been previously modified with cheap materials. Kate and her husband moved in while the renovation was still ongoing, even having to use a ladder instead of a staircase at one point.

The dining table is handmade, and the chairs are from Hans Wegner. A pendant light from Atelier Vime adds a touch of elegance.

UPSTAIRS LIVING SPACE
In the living room, a vintage hand-stitched Moroccan rug introduces a touch of purple. The sectional is from Ikea with Bemz linen covers, while the armchair is vintage. Kate made a wall-mounted unit with a curtain to hide clutter and added brass handles for a vintage touch. This space is cozy and inviting, perfect for weekend carpet picnics with the boys.

PRIMARY BEDROOM
The primary bedroom features a custom bed and a vintage school chair used as a nightstand. The room lacks a door, allowing natural light to flow in and creating a sense of openness and space. The dresser is from Frama, adding a modern touch to the room.

BATHROOM
The bathroom features a bathtub from Copenhagen Bath and floor tiles from Fired Earth. The tub was a rare find in Copenhagen homes, and the couple invested in sub-floor heating for added comfort during the long winters.

Kate and her family have created a warm and welcoming home in Copenhagen, combining traditional elements with modern touches for a cozy and stylish living space.
