Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust recently achieved a significant milestone by performing the first robotic-assisted hysterectomy in Kent and Medway at Darent Valley Hospital using the da Vinci system.
In a press release, Dartford and Gravesham stated that this achievement solidifies their position as a leading healthcare institution in the region, setting new standards in women’s healthcare.
The da Vinci robotic assisted surgery (RAS) system, delivered to Darent Valley Hospital in March 2024, provides surgeons with a highly magnified 3D view of the surgical area. Surgeons control the system from a console, allowing for precise manipulation of instruments during surgery.
This advancement in medical technology enhances patient outcomes, improves the surgical experience for both patients and healthcare teams, and reduces overall treatment costs. Mr. Abhishek Gupta, divisional medical director for surgery at Dartford and Gravesham, emphasized the trust’s commitment to patient-centered care through excellence in robotic-assisted gynecology surgery.
The team at Darent Valley Hospital has undergone training on the da Vinci system to ensure the highest level of patient care and optimal outcomes. Dartford and Gravesham’s dedication to this project showcases their commitment to leveraging the latest advancements in medical technology for the benefit of their community.
With over 12 million surgeries globally conducted using da Vinci systems, the trust’s investment in this technology reflects a forward-thinking approach to healthcare. In related news, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust recently expanded its robotic surgery capabilities by adding two da Vinci machines to its existing fleet.
