The University of Cambridge’s Maxwell Centre has teamed up with SAS, a leading AI and analytics software firm, to enhance healthcare innovation by leveraging advanced analytics.

This collaboration, unveiled at the SAS Innovate event in London on June 12, 2024, involves integrating SAS experts and their Viya data and AI platform within the university setting. This will facilitate targeted collaboration with top researchers and early-stage entrepreneurs.

The SAS Advanced Analytics Hub is set to launch on July 23, offering support to multiple academic research projects and promising startups in the health tech sector.

Dr. Alex Samoshkin, from the School of Clinical Medicine, spearheaded this partnership aimed at accelerating the transition from research to real-world applications. One noteworthy project involved using SAS analytics to streamline the process of qualifying kidneys for transplantation.

Building on the success of the kidney transplant project, the University of Cambridge and SAS are expanding their partnership to explore new opportunities in healthcare innovation.

Roderick Crawford, SAS Northern Europe’s Senior Vice President, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in healthcare and society. He lauded the extended collaboration with the University of Cambridge, highlighting the added expertise from partners like Microsoft and customers such as AstraZeneca.

Looking ahead, SAS is preparing to launch a groundbreaking healthcare platform that will enhance data management, governance, and patient insights to revolutionize the healthcare industry.
